Discussions with Orange City Council re possible land for the Hospice in the Bloomfield Health Precinct. GM David Waddell is with Mary Rose Moses, Lesley Smith, Janice Harris, Jenny Hazelton & Sheelagh Tancred.

In February 2023 Orange City Councillors voted unanimously to lobby for a hospice for Orange placing it in their top two priorities. Infuriated by Orange receiving 0.4 % of the State's palliative care funding, one councillor describing it as 'a few crumbs'.

Announcement on 21st February 2023 by Coalition government, just prior to the March NSW State election of an increase in funding of $3 million to increase the number of end of life care beds at Orange Hospital from two to five. In a similar Coalition announcement Tamworth Hospital received funding of $21 million for a 12 bed free standing hospice.

At the launch local resident Bill Walsh together with his wife Nancy, movingly told of the experience they had at a hospice in Perth when their beloved son Todd was dying of cancer. He was 40, married with 3 young children.

February story 2023 in CWD about Dr Jann Porges' involvement in palliative care. As Medical Superintendent at Orange Base hospital in the 1980s she mobilised the Orange community to build 2 dedicated palliative care beds in the wing of Howse Ward at the old hospital.
